A B O U T   U S

Hilton Hall Community Association is a Company Limited by Guarantee without Share Capital.  Registered in England Company No. 6838077.  HHCA was set up with the sole aim of 'Saving Hilton Hall' from permanent closure and to secure its place in the community for future generations to enjoy.  This is reflected in Article 3 of our Constitution (below).

 

Article 3.1 of our Memorandum of Association states our Objects as:

". . . to further or benefit the residents of Lanesfield and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for sport recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents . . . "

 

We operate very much as a not-for-profit community based social enterprise, a Community Association with charitable aims, working to provide services and facilities for community use (much as before the Hall closed in October 2008) for the benefit of local community groups and sports clubs to provide opportunities for the social, educational, and recreational needs and wellbeing of local people.   We are totally sel-funded and self-sufficient from All of the revenue generated from the hire of Hilton Hall & facilities, which goes directly back into Hilton Hall Community Association Funds for the upkeep, management and repairs needed to keep Hilton Hall open and operational.  We are Not Funded by the Local Authority.  ALL Funding comes from income generated by us. 

 

A bi-product of our actions (i.e. Saving Hilton Hall from closure and Repairing & Refurbishing Hilton Hall as unpaid Volunteers) has provided an excellent working example of what the UK Government referred to as the 'Big Society' (although we did 'this' well before the Government 'Coined' the phrase "The Big Society").  And all we did when we set out on this vast and daunting project was to ensure the survival of Hilton Hall.  Our ambition for Hilton Hall (once brought back into a fit, proper and safe state for public use again) was for 'the Hall' to become self-sufficient and self-sustainable and for 'it' to continue providing a Community presence and Community Hub for locals to enjoy for many years to come.  Our main driving force was the desire to keep Hilton Hall open as this had been our 'Judo Home' since 1976 and we did not want to see this fabulous building demolished and for us (Wolverhampton Youth Judo Centre) to have to find new premises for our Judo Club.  So the Senior Coaches from WYJC got together to put forward the RESCUE PLAN for Hilton Hall of Lanesfield.

 

How we went about 'Saving Hilton Hall from permanent closure:  Following several community consultation meetings organised to discuss the future of Hilton Hall, we (WYJC & another sports club) attended a series of City of Wolverhampton Council meetings negotiating the terms of a service level agreement (our Lease).  We finally came to an agreement with the Property Management Team to take on a long-term repairing lease, and set about repairing and refurbishing  Hilton Hall.  Our intention right from the start was to 'Save Hilton Hall from permanent closure and to repair, renovated, refurbished and finally reinstate Hilton Hall back into community use.  We then put forward an initial 'Five Year Business Plan' and outlined what work was to be completed over this five-year-rescue-plan period.  Our 'Plan' was then implemented and the Three Main Directors, acting as Project Managers (as well as 100 percent of the workforce too) started on the epic amount of work in the first two years to bring Hilton Hall back to serviceable life once more.  The jobs we couldn't manage - we found Sponsors and Suppliers willing to provide us with materials, expertise and labour to help us achieve our goal.  We also actively sourced external 'Funding' to pay for larger items and projects that we couldn't manage to do ourselves.

 

The Directors and Project Management Team of HHCA have worked tirelessly since June 2009 as unpaid volunteers renovating and repairing Hilton Hall (together with the help and encouragement of friends and family and occasional volunteers on the way) and continue to drive this project forward to ensure its success and continuity.  As already stated, all of the funds raised from Lettings, Hall Hire Charges, Donations and Grants go directly back-into Hilton Hall Community Association to pay for the upkeep, repairs and all Outgoing expenses needed to keep Hilton Hall open.

 

The aim of this web site:  is to provide a vehicle to promote and raise public awareness of all issues relating to Hilton Hall Community Centre and Hilton Hall Playing Fields.  But also, for our Sponsors and Suppliers, & Volunteers and 'Helpers-along-the-Way' to see where THEIR Efforts and Worth has contributed the the overall success of this MASSIVE Community Project.

 

This web site also offers a contact point and web-interface with the local community and with our clients, patrons / sponsors, supporters, volunteers, funding agents and all other interested parties (in order for them to e-visit and see how much their help and sponsorship has helped us to achieve our overall aims and objectives).

The 'Links' below represent the Chairman's Annual General Report for each year listed; as presented to Companies House at the end of each 'Trading Year'.  Each of these Annual Reports cover the trading period between the beginning of April to the end of March the following year.  These Annual Reports (below) form the basis of a continuous TIMELINE showing our progress, trials and tribulations from the very beginning, right up to the most recent Annual Report.  These reports offer an excellent opportunity to 'Officially' Thank our Sponsors for all of their generosity and for their kind donations & grant aid.  And to Thank all of our Helpers and Volunteers for their contribution and hard work in helping us achieve our Aims & Objectives in Saving Hilton Hall.
